When a 3-year-old boy in Chicago lost his usual energy and became unresponsive, his mother became concerned. The boy had tested positive for Covid-19 but his symptoms didn’t seem to match. After a hospital visit, it was discovered that he had measles, a highly infectious disease that had been considered eliminated in the US since 2000. Measles outbreaks have been reported in 17 states this year, with 125 cases as of April 18. The boy had only received one dose of the measles vaccine, which is recommended for children between 12 and 15 months old. Measles is highly contagious and can cause severe health problems.
